Love for the craftmanship

Yesterday, a business contact asked me: why not create a low-cost, fully machine-produced collection for BIEQ somewhere in Europe? Or why not expand the line with items like denim or shirts alongside the knitwear?

While I always enjoy exploring different perspectives, for me, the answer has been clear since I started BIEQ. It’s not just about producing knitwearit’s about staying true to the story and values behind the brand.

BIEQ was born from a fascination: the ability to create an entire garment from a single strand of wool. As a teenager, I loved designing and knitting pieces, developing a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship involved.

At first, I made the BIEQ garments myself, but as orders increased, I found local knitters in the Netherlands through Marktplaats to help.

Soon, my vision expanded: I wanted to create job opportunities in less developed countries.

After exploring various options, I connected with small knitting companies in Peru. I was amazed to discover that craftsmanship runs in the blood of both men and women there. It felt like the perfect match!

This synergy brought everything full circle for BIEQ. The love for knitwear, the focus on quality, and the opportunity to support skilled artisans all aligned perfectly to define why BIEQ exists!

Today, the knitting companies in Peru produce machine-knit panels for BIEQ with incredible attention to detail and stitch quality. Each item is assembled by hand, ensuring the human touch remains at the heart of the process. While fully hand-knit items are too costly, this approach strikes the perfect balance between craftsmanship and practicality.

BIEQ is not about creating the cheapest product. It’s about producing an honest, thoughtful piece that’s right from start to finish. Because that’s what makes BIEQ truly unique.
